"If you do not extract the meaning of your precious existence now, when can you ever hope to encounter it again?" - Indian master Shantideva, 8th Century

For some reason this is my favorite "Zen Story:"

The Master invites his Student to the table for tea. The Student gladly sits down and drinks from the cup of tea when the Master strikes him with a stick. Stunned, the Student refrains from drinking the tea when the Master strikes him with the stick again. The Master says, 'If you drink the tea I will strike you with this stick. If you refrain from drinking the tea I will strike you with this stick.' Puzzled, the Student reaches for the tea and is immediately struck so he keeps his hands to himself and is struck immediately again. This happens again and the Student swiftly snatches the stick from the Master's hand who replies, 'No more can I teach you. You are the Master now,' and walks away.
